Richmond Renaissance – Day Seven

Day seven of our Richmond adventures was a bit of a bust. I had work to do to get ready for my son’s birthday party. So, we spent most of the day looking up the stores that we needed on my smart phone, driving to shopping centers and post offices and hanging out in the hot car. Not much to write about. So, instead I will devote this post to some of the music we have been introduced to in Richmond.

The number of country music stations on the radio increases significantly the further south you drive. We have some country stations here in Fredericksburg and they have about twice as many in Richmond. It’s been quite a summer for country music. The country song I hear the most often is “Cruise” by Florida Georgia Line. The hip-hop version plays on pop radio and the original version on country radio. This is a significant song. It is the first time I remember a country song being remixed in this way. It is encouraging to see country music open itself up to different influences and exciting to think what other types of cross-over songs we will see in the future.

Here are a few of the new-to-me country songs we are hearing on Richmond radio. These are all straight-up country songs. They set a distinctive Southern tone to our travels.

What country songs are defining your summer? Please share in the comments.
